About Carols Pet Cafe'
As a pet "Mama", I have always doted on my wonderful pets. I have 2
dogs, Shamus(3.5 yrs)) and Bozworth(4.5 yrs), 2 cats, Chicona(17.5
yrs) and Shabba(17 yrs) and 2 birds, Charlie(3 yrs) and Lorraine(1.5
yrs). Yes, it does sound like Noah's ark.
Carol's Pet Cafe' is currently a home-based business located in
Wilmington, North Carolina and offer services by appointment or
local delivery.
My path started in 2001 when my Sister encouraged me to read a
book about Pet food," Dr. Pitcairns Complete Guide To Natural
Health for Dogs and Cats". Once I read the book, it was evident to
me that I needed to make some changes in my pets' food. I was
horrified to realize that I was slowly poisoning them each day with
each meal!!!
I knew this wasn't going to be easy, but I set out to make my 1st
batch of food. I ordered some ingredients through the internet and
went to the local grocery store for the meat.
Laboriously, I cut, ground and mixed all the food. When I was
finished, I was so happy I was giving my babies the proper nutrition.
The next time I prepared the food it wasn't so bad and then it just
became a routine task. I was hooked. My fat cat lost a few pounds
and stopped suffering from constant hunger and my other cats coats'
started to look lustrous and smell better. The only time I had to take
a cat to the vet was to have their teeth cleaned since I could not get
them to brush.
In 2005, I met Chris and he had a dog, cat and a bird. He read about
the evolutionary diet, but had not fully committed to it for his furry
friends(at the time he was a non-believer, but that was about to
change). I immediately started his animals on the diet and saw a
huge improvement. His dog, who hated his kibble( the very best
kind, mind you, recommended by the Vet) needed to have some
spaghetti sauce poured all over it in order to eat it. Something was
wrong.
Once I put his dog on the Evolutionary Diet, he LOVED the food and
still LOVES the food.
His cat Shabba was having some incontinent issues (peeing
anywhere and everywhere other than the litter box as well as having
explosive diarrhea near the litter box since he was usually trying to
make it there in time to go. Since these problems slowly showed
themselves over time, they were simply thought to be a result of the
introduction of the dog to his environment.
Well, the issues with Shabba continued to worsen where he was not
just hiding and sleeping all of the time. We never saw him.
We took him to the vet and discovered he had Type II diabetes.
Furthermore, the vet explained that he believed the cause was most
likely due to the lack of protein in the kibble! I couldn't believe it. The
kibble (just like all kibble for cats) that had been recommended by a
previous Vet, had no protein, just carbohydrates. Since cats are true
carnivores it is necessary for them to have PLENTY of protein and
very little carbohydrates. The kibble was the primary contributor to
his diabetes! I was appalled. He had lost so much weight that he
was skin and bones and unless we started him on the evolutionary
diet, he probably would have died. We put him on the diet
immediately. Not only did he gain back the weight he lost, but he
started acting like a kitten again, being sociable, playing kitten
games, and most importantly standing up for himself against the
dogs. He is 17 years old and as healthy as he could be.
I got Shamus in 2005 as a 5 month old pup. I hadn't had a dog since
childhood because of my job. He was given to me with a kibble diet
that was causing crystals in his urine. One Vet said it was a urinary
tract infection, but another diagnosed the crystals. Evolutionary diet
to the rescue and he has been eating it ever since.
I realize that most people don't have time to make their pets's foods
everyday. That is why Carol's Pet Cafe was formed. I provide the pet
food, you just feed them. It is that easy.
