About Carols Pet Cafe'
As a pet "Mama", I have always doted on my wonderful pets.  I have 3
dogs, Shamus(5 yrs)) and Bozworth(6 yrs), Lilly (1 yr), 1 cat,
Chicona(19 yrs) and 2 birds, Charlie(4 yrs) and Lorraine(2 yrs).

Carol's Pet Cafe' is located in Wilmington, North Carolina.  I am a
distributor for Barf World and also offer holistic products to improve
the health of our pets.

My path started in 2001 when my Sister, Bonnie, encouraged me to
read a book about Pet food,"
Dr. Pitcairns Complete Guide To
Natural Health for Dogs and Cats".  Once I read the book, it was
evident to me that I needed to make some changes in my pets' food.

I was horrified to realize that I was slowly poisoning them each
day with each meal!!!

I knew this wasn't going to be easy, but I set out to make my first
batch of food.  I ordered some ingredients and went to the local
grocery store for the meat.

Laboriously, I cut, ground and mixed all the food.  When I was
finished, I was satisfied that I was feeding my babies the proper
nutrition.  The next time I prepared the food it wasn't so bad and then
it just became a routine task.  I was hooked.  My fat cat lost a few
pounds and stopped suffering from constant hunger and my other
cats coats' started to look lustrous and smell better.  The only time I
needed to take a cat to the vet was to have their teeth cleaned since I
could not get them to brush.

In 2005, I met Chris and he had a dog, cat and a bird.  He read about
the raw diet, but had not fully committed to it for his furry friends(at the
time he was a non-believer, but that was about to change).  I
immediately started his animals on raw and saw a huge
improvement.  His dog, who hated his kibble( the very best kind,
mind you, recommended by the Vet) needed to have some spaghetti
sauce poured all over it in order to eat it.  Something was wrong.

Once I put his dog on the Raw Diet, he LOVED the food and still
LOVES the food.

His cat, Shabba, was having some incontinence issues (peeing
anywhere and everywhere other than the litter box as well as having
explosive diarrhea near the litter box since he was usually trying to
make it there in time to go.)  Since these problems slowly showed
themselves over time, they were simply thought to be a result of the
introduction of a dog to his environment.

Well, the issues with Shabba continued to worsen. We took him to
the vet  and discovered he had diabetes.  Furthermore, the vet
explained that he believed the cause was most likely due to the lack
of protein in the kibble!  I couldn't believe it.   The kibble (just like all
kibble for cats) had been recommended by a Vet and had no protein,
just carbohydrates.

Since cats are true carnivores it is necessary for them to have
PLENTY of protein and fat and very little carbohydrates.  The kibble
was the primary contributor to his diabetes!  I was appalled.  He had
lost  a lot of weight.  We put him on the diet immediately.  Not only did
he gain back the weight he lost, but he started acting like a kitten
again, being sociable, playing kitten games, and most importantly
standing up for himself against the dogs.  He is 18 years old and as
healthy as he could be.

I got Shamus in 2005 as a 5 month old pup.  I hadn't had a dog since
childhood because of my job.  He was given to me with a kibble diet
that was causing crystals in his urine.  One Vet said it was a urinary
tract infection, but another diagnosed the struvite crystals.  Raw diet
to the rescue. It cleared the crystals out of his system in less than a
week;  and he has been eating it ever since.

I realize that most people don't have time to make their pet's food
everyday.  That is why Carol's Pet Cafe was formed.  I wanted to offer
healthy food options to pet owners so their pets could keep their
immune systems strong and resistant against disease.

A kibble based diet wreaks havoc on the immune system. The lack of
enzymes in the diet creates this dire situation.  High heat, poor
protein sources and "acceptable" allowable toxins added to
commercial pet foods also play a destructive role in our pets bodies.

Some folks say to me, " But why are they growing and have energy if
the processed kibble and canned food is so bad?"
The answer is
simple
: If you, human, ate donuts, chips, soda, french fries, and
cookies for each meal, you wouldn't die right away would you? In fact,
you may believe there was nothing wrong with that type of diet.

The problem is that the calories being consumed are "empty
calories". They are all carbohydrates,  bad fats, and sugar.  It will
keep you alive for a period of time, but will not NOURISH your body to
fight disease, to rebuild your cells and assist your body in its natural
processes. You could probably manage to LIVE on that type of diet
for many years without seeing any life threatening problems.

Thus, lies the problem with the commercial pet foods. Our pets can
live on it, but it will NOT nourish their bodies to fight against disease
and illness.  In fact, it is only adding to the stress the body already
endures each day.  If fed a steady diet of processed food, you will
start seeing decline in years 5- 10 of your pet if not sooner. Some
health effects will be more serious than others and death will result.

My education in holistic nutrition and animal naturopathy has led me
through this door to promote better health for our pets.  My passion
and my life's goal is to bring this information to pet owners so they
can enjoy many more happy years with their beloved furry friends.
This will not only benefit their quality of life, but it will truly keep the joy
that only our pets can provide close to our hearts and lives.
